47. State of Maryland Dorchester County Sct. Be it remembered that on the thirty first day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty seven personally appeared before me the undersigned a Justice of the Peace in & for Dorchester County John W. Stevens who is known to me as the identical party Mortgagor within described and Acknowledged the within Mortgage Bill of sale to be his Act and deed according to the purport, true intent & meaning of the same and the Acts of Assembly in such case made & provided. Acknowledged before W.m W. Le Compte Dorchester County Sct. On the 31 December 1847 then came before me a Justice of the Peace of said County William Rea one of the Mortgagees mentioned in the within Mortgage Bill Sale and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in said Mortgage or instrument of writing is true and bona fide as therein Specified to the best of his knowledge Sworn before W.m W. Le Compte Thomas Barnett Be it remembered that the following Mortgage Bill of Sale was Paid from Ex.d recorded on the 3.d day of January 1848, To wit: William Brown This Indenture made this third day of January in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty Eight between William Brown of Talbot County in the state of Maryland of the one part and Thomas Barnett of Dorchester County and state aforesaid of the other part Whereas the said William Brown owes and stands justly indebted to the said Thomas Barnett in the sum of one hundred and fifty five dollars current money and to secure the payment thereof is willing to execute these presents Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said William Brown for and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of one dollar current money to him in hand paid by the said Thomas Barnett at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained & sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain & sell unto the said Thomas Barnett, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns his Negro Woman Cloe aged aged about twenty seven years unto the said Thomas Barnett, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns to his and their own use and behoof: Provided Always and it is declared to be the true intent and meaning of these presents that if the said William Brown do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Thomas Barnett, his Executors, Administrators or Assigns the full sum of one hundred & fifty five dollars current money with legal interest thereon from January the first Eighteen hundred and forty Eight on or before the first day of January next ensuing the date hereof then and in such case these presents and every matter and thing herein contained shall cease, determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding.
