Maryland Dorchester County, To wit:   on the third day of January
in the Year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty Eight personally appeared
before me a Justice of the Peace.  William Brown the within mortgage
and acknowledged the within Mortgage to be his act and deed according
to the Act of Assembly in such case made & provided   And at the same time
came before me the said Justin Thomas Barnett the Mortgage within
named and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the
consideration set forth in this Mortgage Bill sale is true & bona fide
as therein set forth according to the Act of Assembly.

Edmund North          Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale
Paid   from   Ex.d      was recorded on the 4.th day of January 1848, To wit:
John E. Stevens         {Stamp}     Know all men by these presents that I John E.
                                {one dol.}   Stevens for and in consideration of the sum of
four hundred dollars to me in hand paid by Edmund North have
granted, bargained & sold and by these presents do grant, bargain
and sell unto the said Edmund North my Negro man named Jinkins
aged about twenty five years servant for about fourteen years
according to Bill of sale of Tho. J. Pattison and sound in body and
Mind   To have and to hold the said Negro man Jinkins for his
term of service according to Bill of sale executed to me the past
year from Thomas J. Pattison as above bargained and sold unto
the said Edmund North, his heirs, executors, Administrators and
Assigns against me the said John E. Stevens. my heirs, executors and
Administrators and against all and every other person or persons shall
and will warrant and defend.  In testimony whereof I have hereto
set my hand and affixed my seal this fourth day of January 1848.

State of Maryland Dorchester County, To wit:  On this 4 day of
Jany 1848 before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for the said
county & state personally appeared John E. Stevens and Edmund North

to be their Act and deed according to the true intent & meaning thereof.
