4. the sum of Forty dollars to me in hand paid by John D. Farquharson have granted, bargained & sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said John D. Farquharson my Negroes named Grace aged twenty four years to be free January 1 1852 and her infant child John slave for life and sound in body and mind To have and to hold the said Negroes Grace and John as above bargained and sold unto the said John D. Farquharson, his heirs, executors, Administrators and Assigns against me the said Mary Ann Drain, my heirs, executors and Administrators and against all and every other person or persons shall and will warrant and defend. Farquharson and Acknowledged the above Bill of sale or instrument of writing to be act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof. Acknowledged before Robert Bell J. P. John H. Carroll Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale from Ex.d was recorded on the 22.d day of May 1847. To wit: Peter Wheeler & Know all men by these presents that we Peter Wheeler Alexander Wilson and Alexander Wilson of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar current money to us in hand paid by John H. Carroll of said County ^we^ have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said John H. Carroll all our right and title to a negro woman named Matilda Bond aged 28 years, also Negro woman Mary LeCompte aged 25 years said Matilda and said Mary being slaves for life and sound in body and mind which said Negro Slaves belonged to the late Nancy Parker upon whose Estate Peter Wheeler To have and to hold the said Negroes as above bargained and sold unto the said John H. Carroll and his Executors, Administrators and Assigns against us the said Alexander Wilson & Peter Wheeler, heirs, executors and Administrators shall and will warrant and defend.
