397 named Jane aged Eleven years a slave for life and now in the possession of the said David W Tyler To have and to hold the above described negro girl Jane unto the said David W Tyler his heirs and assigns forever and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever against me the said Charles Shenton and my heirs and against all persons whatsoever claiming the said negro girl Jane in testimony whereof the said Charles Shenton has hereunto Subscribed his name and affixed his seal the third of February Eighteen hundred and fifty two Signed sealed and delivered Charles Shenton (seal) in presence of Henry Shenton State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on the third day of February in the year eighteen hundred and fifty two personally appeared Charles Shenton the party Grantor in the above and aforegoing Bill of Sale and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and delivered the same for the uses and purposes therein Mentioned and on the same day before me as aforesaid personally appeared David W Tyler granted named in the aforegoing Bill of sale ^and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration Mentioned in the aforegoing Bill of Sale^ is true an bona fide as therein set forth, Acknowledged and Sworn before Henry Shenton John R. Martin Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the Exd from 85 following bill of Sale was received and recorded on Andrew Opher negro the fourteenth day of February 1852 to wit. Know all men by these presents that I Andrew Opher free coloured man of Dorchester County in the state of Maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty three dollars current money to me in hand paid by John R Martin of Dorchester County in the said state at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I the said Andrew Opher do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said John R Martin his executors administrators and assigns all the goods household stuff, chattels implements and furniture particularly mentioned or expressed hereinafter that is to say 2 cows 5 Shoats 3 pigs 1 yearling 2 Bulls 20 barrels corn ½ of the wheat crop growing on the ground 500 pounds of pork 1 horse cart 1 scythe 5 turkeys 14 fowls 8 muscove ducks 7 puddle ducks 1500 pounds of blades 3 beds bedsteads and furniture 6 chairs 3 chests 2 spinning wheels 2 pine tables all the crockery ware and cooking utensils in and about the House and kitchen where I now occupy also 1 riding saddle All and singular which said goods and chattels are now remaining standing and being in a certain messuage or tenement in black water in the said County and on and about the said premises and now in Bill of Sale del.d to Jno R Martin Feby 11th 1856 |
