392 and under an order of the orphans Court authorized to make sale of the interest of the said Sarah H. Rawleigh in and to the property mentioned hereafter and the said John Leeds Thomas and his wife Sarah H. Thomas and James A. Stewart all of Dorchester County State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars to them in hand paid by Clement Hubbard that is the sum of one hundred and sixty dollars to the said James A Stewart for his interest in the property herein conveyed and the sum of Two Hundred and forty dollars to the said John L. Thomas and wife the said John L Thomas having certain Bills to pay on account of the said property amounting to the sum of Eighty dollars the said party grantors have granted bargained and Sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Clement Hubbard and his heirs exor.s or admr.s or assigns Negro boy slave called Joshua aged about Twelve or Fourteen years and a slave for life to have and to hold the said boy Joshua as a slave for life to the said Clement Hubbard and his heirs exor.s and admr.s or assigns and the said party grantors do warrant and defend the title to the said boy as a slave for life to the said Clement Hubbard and his heirs exor.s admr.s and assigns but do not warrant or defend the soundness of the said boy either mentaly or physicaly In testimony whereof the said Eliza Rawleigh guardian of aforesaid and the said John L. Thomas and Sarah H Thomas his wife and James A. Stewart have to these presents set their hands and seals this first day of January in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty two Signed sealed her and delivered Eliza + Rawleigh (seal) in the presence of us marks James Rea John L. Thomas (seal) Charles Corkran Sarah H. Thomas (seal) James A Stewart (seal) State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit. On the 1st day of January 1852 before us the subscribers two Justices of the peace for the said State and County personally appeared Eliza Rawleigh John l. Thomas and Sarah H. Thomas his wife and James A Stewart party grantors in the foregoing Instrument of writing and severaly and respectively did sign seal and acknowledge the said Instrument of writing to be their several respective acts and deeds and the said Sarah H. Thomas wife of the said John L. Thomas and out of the presence and hearing of her said husband did appear before us and sign seal execute and acknowledge of the foregoing Instrument of writing to be her act and deed and being by us privately examined apart from and out of the presence and hearing |
