338. William Wingate Be it remembered that the following Deed of Ex.d To 55 Manumission was recorded on the 17.th day of May 1851. Negro Jane Stevens To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, & others William Wingate, of the Town of Cambridge, in Dorchester County, in the State of Maryland, for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving, have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted & set free, my Negro Woman Jane Stevens, being of the age of twenty four, to be free January ^the^ first Eighteen hundred & sixty five, and her son Francis Stevens of the age of five years to be free on the first day of January Eighteen hundred and eighty, and Jane's son W.m Henry Charles Stevens of the age one year to be free on the first day of January Eighteen hundred & Eighty five, and all subsequent issue of the said Negro Woman, Jane Stevens which may be born of her hereafter, shall be free when they respectively attain the age of thirty five years: And I do hereby declare the said woman Jane Stevens and Boys Francis Stevens, William Henry Charles Stevens and the subsequent issue of the said Woman Jane Stevens, to be thenceforth free, manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my Executors or Administrators, according to the times and terms as within & above expressed, forever. In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this fifteenth day of May Eighteen hundred & fifty one. David Maraine Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale Ex.d from 90 was recorded on the 28.th day of May 1851, To wit: Benjamin M.cWilliams Know all men by these presents that I, Benjamin M.cWilliams of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by David Marain of Somerset County in the said State, at and before the sealing & delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof I, the said Benjamin M.cWilliams do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said David Maraine, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, all |
