320. and assigns forever, the following negro slaves, To wit: Negro Girl called "Ellen" aged eight years Negro Boy Dennis aged seven years and Theodore aged four years, the said slaves being the children of Negro Woman called "Mary Teackle", the said slaves to serve the said Alward Johnson, & his heirs & Assigns, the following terms, To wit: the said Girl Ellen to serve untill the first day of January in the year Eighteen hundred & sixty nine the said Boy "Dennis" to serve untill the first day of January Eighteen hundred and seventy five And the said Boy "Theodore" to serve untill the first day of January Eighteen hundred & seventy eight, and after the said slaves have well & truly served the aforesaid terms respectively, then they are hereby declared to be manumitted & set free by the mutual agreement & consent of all the parties to this instrument of writing the said slaves before the execution of the said instrument being the slaves of the said Mary Ann Hughes, widow of the said William Hughes, and bound to serve as slaves for life. To have and to hold the said Alward Johnson and his heirs, executors, administrators & assigns forever, and after that time respectively to be liberated, manumitted & set free. In testimony whereof the said Josiah & Denwood, and Mary Ann Hughes, the parties selling, and the said Alward Johnson party purchaser, have to these presents set their hands & seals this twenty fifth day of February in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty one Josiah Hughes (seal) Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of Denwood Hughes (seal) Alex H. Bayly Charles Corkran her Mary Ann x Hughes (seal) mark Alward Johnson (seal) State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On this twenty fifth day of February in the year Eighteen hundred & fifty one, personally appears before me the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace for the said State & County, Josiah Hughes & Denwood Hughes, and Mary Ann Hughes, party grantors in the foregoing instrument of writing, and Alward Johnson, party grantee, in the same, and severally & respectively acknowledge the same to be their act & deed And the said Alward Johnson, party grantee, madekes Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration mentioned therein is bona fide just and true to the best of his knowledge & belief.
