Mitchell Be it remembered that the following Ex.d To 50 Deed of Manumission was recorded on the Negro Tom or Thomas 12.th day of March A. D. 1851, To wit: To all whom it may concern, be it known that I, John S. Mitchell, of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland, for divers good causes & considerations me thereunto moving, have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted & set free, and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free, my negro man named Tom, being of the age of twenty eight on the first day of January last, to be free when he attains the age of forty years, being able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance, and him the said negro man named Thomas or Tom I do declare to be thenceforth free, manumitted & discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me, my Executors or administrators forever. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my name and seal this 21.st day of February 1851. Witness two John S. Mitchell (seal) Charles Corkran Wm Rea. Maryland, Dorchester County Sct: Be it remembered that on the 21.st day of February Anno Domini 1851, Then came John S. Mitchell before me the undersigned, a Justice of the Peace, in and for Dorchester County, acknowledged the within deed of Manumission to be his act and deed, according to the purport, true intent & meaning of the same, and the Acts of Assembly in such case made & provided. Certified by Charles Corkran. Alward Johnson Be it remembered that the following Ex.d from 85 Bill of Sale & Deed of Manumission was Josiah Hughes & others recorded on the 15.th day of March 1851, To wit: Know all men by these presents that we Josiah Hughes & Denwood Hughes, Executors of the last will and testament of William Hughes, and Mary Ann Hughes, Widow & residuary Legatee of the said William Hughes, for and in consideration of the sum of Four hundred & sixty dollars, to them in hand paid by Alward Johnson, the said Josiah & Denwood and Mary Ann Hughes and the said Alward Johnson being residents of Dorchester County and State of Maryland, have given, granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do give, grant, bargain & sell unto the said Alward Johnson and his heirs Del.d to Alward Johnson 27th April 1853. |
