317 George Wallace Be it remembered that the following Bill of sale Ex.d from 60 was recorded on the 19 day of February in the year Susan Tubman 1851. To wit: Know all men by these presents that I, Susan Tubman, of Dorchester County and State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and fifty dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by George Wallace, of the County & State aforesaid, at and before the sealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said Susan Tubman hath bargained & sold, transfered and delivered, and by these presents doth bargain & sell, transfer & deliver, unto the said George Wallace, his heirs and Assigns forever, one Negro Man, named Joe, aged about forty five years, and a slave for life. To have and to hold the said Negro Man, named Joe, a slave for life, unto the said George Wallace, his heirs and Assigns forever, against me the said Susan Tubman and my heirs, and against all persons whatsoever, to the only proper use of the said George Wallace, his heirs & Assigns forever, and for no other use, intent or purpose whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Susan Tubman has hereunto subscribed her name and affixed her seal this 19.th day of February in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty one. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of Susan Tubman (Seal) Test Charles Corkran Maryland, Dorchester County ss. On this 19 day of February in the year 1851, personally appeared Susan Tubman, before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for the County and state aforesaid, and acknowledged the above Bill of sale to be her Act and deed, and delivered the same for the uses and purposes therein mentioned, according to the Act of Assembly in such case made & provided: At the same time appeared before me, George Wallace, party grantee within named, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration mentioned in the aforegoing Bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth. Acknowledged & sworn before Charles Corkran 1851 February 19.th Rec.d one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of sale.
