315 subscriber, a Justice of the Peace for the County and state aforesaid, and acknowledged the above Bill of sale to be her act & deed, and delivered the same for the uses & purposes therein mentioned, according to the Act of Assembly in such cases made & provided. Acknowledged before Charles Corkran Received January 22.d 1851 one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of Sale Wm Jackson Clk. Thomas H. Hurley Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale Ex.d from 60 was recorded on the 10.th day of February A. D. 1851. Tho. J. H. Eccleston Know all men by these presents that I Thomas J. H. Eccleston of Dorchester County & State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of seven hundred & fifty dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by Thomas H. Hurley, of Dorchester County & State aforesaid, have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell, unto the said Thomas H. Hurley, his heirs and Assigns, Negro Man Thomas Cornish, slave for life & sound in body & mind. To have and to hold the said Negro Thomas Cornish, as above bargained and sold, unto the said Thomas H. Hurley, his heirs, executors, Administrators & Assigns, against me the said Thomas J. H. Eccleston, my heirs, executors & Administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever, will warrant & forever defend. In testimony whereof I, Thomas J. H. Eccleston have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal the eighth day of February Anno Domini 1851. Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of James Rea Thomas J. H. Eccleston (Seal) Maryland, Dorchester County To wit: On the eighth day of February Eighteen hundred and fifty one, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace of Dorchester County, the within named Thomas J. H. Eccleston and acknowledged the within Bill of Sale to be his act & deed, according to the purport, true intent & meaning thereof: And at the same time came before me, Thomas H. Hurley, within mentioned, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the consideration set forth in this Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth. Acknowledged and sworn to before James Rea 1850 February 10.th Received of Thomas H. Hurley the sum of one dollar in lieu of a Stamp on this Bill of sale. Wm Jackson Clk |
