312. DeWit C. Handley Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that Paid Ex.d from 62½ the following Bill of Sale was recorded on the John B. Marshall Exec.r 13.th day of January A. D. 1851, To wit: Know all men by these presents that I, John B. Marshall, Executor of William Piercy, of Dorchester County & State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty five dollars and seventy five cents, current money, to me in hand paid by DeWit C. Handley of Dorchester County & state of Maryland, have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell, unto the said DeWit C. Handley, his heirs and Assigns, the following Negro Boy called Abraham Atkinson, servant for three years from the first of the present month, he being now about the age of thirty five years, slave for the term of three years afs.d and sound in body & mind: To have and to hold the said Negro boy Abraham Atkinson, aged about thirty five years as above bargained & sold, unto the said DeWit C. Handley, his heirs, executors, Administrators and Assigns, against the said William Piercy, his heirs, and me Jno B. Marshall, my heirs, executors & administrators, and against all & every other person or persons whatsoever, shall and will warrant and forever defend. In testimony whereof I, John B. Marshall, Executor of William Piercy, have hereto set my hand and affixed seal this 13.th day of February Eighteen hundred & fifty one. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of James Rea John B. Handly (seal) Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On the thirteenth day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifty one, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in & for said County, the within named John B. Marshall, Executor of William Piercy, and acknowledged the within Bill of Sale to be his Act and deed, according to the purport, true intent & meaning of the same: And at the same time came before me; DeWit C. Handley, within mentioned, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in this Bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth, according to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1846, Chapter 271, made & provided.
