309. intent & meaning of the same: And at the same time came before me, William Frazier within mentioned, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in this Bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth, according to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1846, Chapter 271, made & provided. Acknowledged before Sam.l Abbott J. P. Received January 3.d 1851 of William Frazier the sum of one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of sale. W.m Jackson Clk Josiah Bayly Be it remembered & it is hereby certified that the following Ex.d from 62½ Bill of sale was recorded on the 7.th day of January 1851, To wit: Ann H. Bayly Know all men by these presents that I, Ann H. Bayly of Dorchester County and State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of nine hundred dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by Josiah bayly of Dorchester County & State of Maryland, have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell, unto the said Josiah Bayly, his heirs and Assigns, the following Negroes, To wit: Negro Man Sampson Waters aged about fifty years, Man Job Waters, aged about forty seven years, Woman Hagar aged about twenty five years, and her child Nancy aged seven years or thereabouts, slaves for life, and sound in body & mind: To have and to hold the said Negroes Sampson Waters, Job Waters, Woman Hagar and her child Nancy as aforesaid, and as above bargained & sold, unto the said Josiah Bayly, his heirs, executors, Administrators & Assigns, against me the said Ann H. Bayly, my heirs, executors & Administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever, shall & will warrant & forever defend. In testimony whereof I, Ann H. Bayly, have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this seventh day of January eighteen hundred & fifty one. Signed, sealed & delivered in the Ann H. Bayly (Seal) presence of James Rea Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On the seventh day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifty one, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for said County, the within named Ann H. Bayly, and acknowledged the within Bill of sale to be her Act & deed, according to the purport, true intent and meaning of the same; And at the same time came before me, Josiah Bayly, the purchaser within mentioned, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the consideration set forth in this Bill of sale is true & bona fide, as therein set forth, according to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1846, Chapter 271, made and provided.
