302 Samuel Craig and Be it remembered & it is hereby certified that W.m Leonard the following Mortgage Bill of sale was recorded Ex.d from 105 on the 21.st day of December A. D. 1850, To wit: Hugh Maguire This Indenture made this third day of December in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred & fifty between Hugh Maguire of Dorchester and state of Maryland, of the one part, and Samuel Craig & William Leonard, of Dorchester County and state aforesaid, of the other part Whereas the said Hugh Maguire owes and stands justly indebted to William W. Crawford as Trustee in the sum of Eleven hundred & seventy two dollars and six cents (upon which said Craig & Leonard are security) current money, and to secure the payment thereof is willing to execute these presents; Now This Indenture Witnesseth that, the said Hugh Maguire, for and in consideration of the premises, and for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars, current money, to him in hand paid by the said Samuel Craig & William Leonard, at or before the sealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof the said Hugh Maguire doth hereby acknowledge, and thereof & therefrom doth acquit, release, exonerate and forever discharge the said Samuel Craig & William Leonard, their heirs, executors and Administrators, and every of them by these presents, hath granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents doth grant bargain & sell, unto Samuel Craig & William Leonard, their executors, administrators & Assigns, all and singular the within named Negroes as hereinafter particularly mentioned and expressed, (that is to say) one Negro Man Jim a slave for life, and aged about twenty five years, and one other Boy slave called Jo or Joseph, aged about fifteen years, and Negro Girl slave Eliza aged eighteen years, all which said slaves are now in the possession of said Hugh Maguire. To have and to hold all & singular the said Negro slaves, herein before granted, bargained & sold, or mentioned or intended so to be, unto the said Samuel Craig & William Leonard, their executors, administrators & assigns, to the only proper use and behoof of the said Samuel Craig & William Leonard, their executors, Administrators and Assigns forever: Provided Always, and these presents are upon this condition, that if the said Hugh Maguire, his executors or Administrators, shall & do well & truly pay, or cause to be paid, unto the said William ^W^ Crawford, his executors, administrators or assigns, the full sum of Eleven hundred & seventy two dollars and six cents, current money, with legal interest for the same, on or before the thirtieth day of November in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred & fifty two, then & in such case these presents, and every matter & thing herein contained, shall cease, determine & be utterly void, to all intents and purposes, any thing herein contained, to the contrary thereof, in anywise notwithstanding Bill of Sale Delivered to William Lenard Decm 2 1852. |
