party Mortgagor, and acknowledged the within & aforegoing Mortgage Bill
of sale to be his Act & deed, according to the purport, true intent and
meaning of the same:  And at the same time came before me, John Jones
of Col, party mortgagee within mentioned, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely
of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in this Mortgage Bill of sale
is true and bona fide as therein set forth, according to the true meaning
of the Act of Assembly of 1846, Chapter 271, made & provided.
Acknowledged before                                                      James Rea.


Mary Ann Cook      Be it remembered & it is hereby certified that the
Ex.d    from    55     following Bill of sale was recorded on the 13.th day
Sarah Hambleton     of December A. D. 1850, To wit:
                               Know all men by these presents that I, Sarah
Hambleton, of Dorchester County and State of Maryland, for and in consideration
of the sum of seventy five dollars, current money, to me in hand paid
by Mary A. Cook, of Dorchester County & State of Maryland, have granted,
bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said
Mary A. Cook, her heirs & assigns, one Negro Man named John Hughes,
to serve three years from the first day of February A. D. 1857, a slave
for a term of years, he being sound in body & mind:  To have and to
hold the said Negro Man John Hughes untill the first day of February
A. D. 1854, as above bargained & sold, unto the said Mary A. Cook, her
heirs, executors, Administrators and Assigns, against myself, the said Sarah
Hambleton, my heirs, executors, administrators & Assigns, and against all &
every other person or persons whatsoever, shall & will warrant and forever
defend.  In testimony whereof we have hereto set our hands and affixed our
seals this twelfth day of December in the year of Our Lord one thousand
eight hundred & fifty.                                             her

State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit:  On this 12.th day of
December A. D. 1850, before me the subscriber, one of the Justices of the Peace,
in and for said County, personally appeared Sarah Hambleton, and acknowledged
the above & within instrument of writing to be her Act & deed, and delivered
the same for the uses & purposes therein mentioned:  And also
at the same time personally appeared Mary A. Cook and made Oath
on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set
forth in the within Bill of sale is true and bona fide.
