297. of the Act of Assembly of 1846, chapter 271, made & provided. Acknowledged before John D. Stevens J. P. Rec.d Dec.r 9.th 1850 one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of sale. W.m Jackson Clk. James Thompson Be it remembered & it is hereby certified that the Ex.d from 70 following Bill of sale was recorded on the 9.th day Thomas M. Flint of December A. D. 1850, To wit: Know all men by these presents, that I, Thomas M. Flint, of Dorchester County & state of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred and ten dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by James Thompson of Dorchester County and State of Maryland, have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell, unto the said James Thompson, his heirs and Assigns, Negro Man named Joshua, a servant untill the end of the year Eighteen hundred and sixty seven, at which time he will be entitled to his freedom under the will of Jacob Howard, deceased, sound in body and mind: To have and to hold the said Negro Man, as a servant aforesaid, untill the expiration of the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred & sixty seven 1867, as above bargained & sold unto the said James Thompson, his heirs, executors, Administrators and Assigns, against me the said Thomas M. Flint, my heirs, executors and Administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever, shall & will warrant and forever defend. In testimony whereof we Thomas M. Flint & James Thompson have hereunto set our hands & affixed seals this seventh day of December eighteen hundred and fifty. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of Thomas M. Flint (seal) John H. Nicolson Kengamin F. Sherman James Thompson (seal) Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On the seventh day of December in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifty, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for said County, the within named Thomas M. Flint & James Thompson, and acknowledged the within Bill of sale to be their act and deed, according to the purport, true intent and meaning of the same; and at the same time came before me, James Thompson within mentioned, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in this Bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth, according to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1846, Chapter 271, made and provided.
