274. John Troth Be it remembered & it is hereby certified that the Ex.d from 50 following Indenture was recorded on the 23.d day of Priscilla Styles September in the year 1850, To wit: This Indenture Witnesseth, that in virtue of an Act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed December Session Eighteen hundred & thirty nine, Chap 35 entitled an Act ot provide for the better regulation of the free Negroes and Mulatto Children within this State, I, John Troth have agreed in presence of Thomas Breerwood John W. Dail & Algernon Thomas, Justices of the Orphans Court of Dorchester County, who have testified their Assent by witnessing this Indenture, that I will take as an Apprentice Negro Priscilla Stiles, daughter of Jonathan Stiles, who is now before the said Justices and aged five years, to serve me as an Apprentice untill she attains the age of sixteen years, and I agree to furnish and provide for said Apprentice good & sufficient meat, drink, clothes, washing, lodging & other requisite necessaries fitting for an Apprentice and to teach her the occupation of House wifery in the several branches thereof, and when free to give her the sum of Eight dollars current money as freedom dues. Stewart Be it remembered & it is hereby certified that Ex.d from 65 the following Mortgage Bill of sale was recorded Joseph Marine on the 25.th day of September 1850, To wit: Whereas the undersigned, Joseph Marine, free coloured Man, of Dorchester County, stands indebted to James A. Stewart for the balance due on a Judgment in Dorchester County Court in favor of said Stewart and against the said Joseph Marine and Jere Marine his security And Whereas there has been an execution issued on the said Judgment and certain property levied upon by the Sheriff and which is probably not sufficiently available to pay off the said Judgment And Whereas the said Joseph Marine her other property, not embraced in the said occupation and is desirous of securing the said James A. Stewart as for as possible and making the said property available for the payment of the said Judgment Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said Joseph Marine, for and in consideration of the premises and the sum of one dollar to him in hand paid by the said James A. Stewart, has given, granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents does give, grant, bargain and sell unto |
