Dail & Algernon Thomas, Justices of the Orphans Court of Dorchester County
who have testified their assent by witnessing this Indenture, that I will
take as apprentices Negroes Anna Maria Styles & William Styles, who
is now before the said Justices, and the said Anna Maria being of the
age of Eleven years, and William being of the age of eight years, the
said Anna Maria to serve me as an Apprentice untill she attains
the age of Sixteen years, and the said William being of the age of
eight years to serve me as an Apprentice untill he attains the age of
twenty one years, and I agree to furnish & provide for said Apprentices
good & sufficient meat, drink, clothes, washing, lodging and other
requisite necessaries fitting for an Apprentice and to teach the
said Anna Maria Styles the business of House wifery, and the said
William Styles the business of a Farmer, and when the said Anna
Maria is free to give her freedom dues ten dollars, and when the
said William is free to give him the sum of fifteen dollars,
current money, as freedom dues.  As witness my hand & seal this
23d September 1850

Thomas Willis         Be it remembered & it is hereby certified that the
Ex.d    from    50    following Indenture was recorded on the 23.d day of
John Styles             September in the year 1850, To wit:
                               This Indenture Witnesseth that in virtue of an Act
of the General Assembly of Maryland passed December Session Eighteen
hundred & thirty nine, Chapter 35 entitled An Act to provide for the better
regulation of free Negroes & Mulatto Children within this State,"   I,
Thomas Willis have agreed in presence of Thomas Breerwood, John W. Dail
and Algernon Thomas,  Justices of the Orphans Court of Dorchester County
who have testified their assent by witnessing this Indenture, that I will
take as apprentice negro Boy John Styles aged six years to serve me
as an Apprentice untill he attains the age of twenty one years
and I agree to furnish & provide for said Apprentice good and
sufficient meat, drink, clothes, washing, lodging and other requisite
necessaries fitting for an Apprentice, and to teach the said John the
business of a Farmer, and when the said John arrives at the age
of twenty one years to give him the sum of Ten dollars as freedom
dues.  As Witness my hand and seal this 23.d September 1850.
