Wright his Thomas x Wheatley (seal) State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On this 11.th day of May Eighteen hundred & fifty, before me, one of the Justices of the Peace for said County, appears Thomas Bennett, party grantor, and Acknowledges the foregoing writing to be his act and deed, that the consideration set forth in the Bill of sale is true & bona fide as therein set forth At the same time & place also appeared before me, Thomas Wheatley, Grantee in the said Bill of sale named and made Oath that the consideration set forth in the said Bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth. Sworn Sam.l Abbott J. P. John Muir Be it remembered & it is hereby certified that the following Paid Ex.d from 95 Bill of sale was recorded on the 13.th day of May 1850, To wit: James N. Wright Whereas certain writs of Fieri Facias (four in number) issued by Samuel Abbott Esquire a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester County, and to me directed as Constable, dated 18.th February in the year Eighteen hundred & fifty, one for the sum of ninety one dollars & sixty six cents debt and fifty eight & one half cents Costs, another for the sum of sixty six dollars and eighty four cents debt and fifty eight cents Cost, another for the sum of Twenty six dollars and sixty nine cents debt and fifty eight Cents cost and other for the sum of thirty dollars and seventy seven cents debt & fifty eight cents, making in the aggregate the sum of Two hundred & forty eight dollars and seventy cents debt & Costs of said &c at the suit of Muir & Wrighton, reciting, that Whereas the said Muir and Wrighton, by a Judgment of Robert Muir Esquire, a Justice of the Peace in and for said County recorded against one Elijah Marshall the said several sums of Money & Costs, in the said writs mentioned, therefore I, James N. Wright, Constable, was commanded by said writs of fieri facias, of the goods and chattels of the said Elijah Marshall should cause to be made & satisfied the said several sums of Money so as aforesaid recovered and mention in said executions, and to make return of the same before the said Justin Abbott or some other Justice of the Peace in said County on the first day of April then next following, and to have then & there those writs, and the said writs having come into my hands, I proceeded in virtue of the authority therein contained to size and take into execution the goods and chattels of the said Elijah Marshall, and among other things I seized and took into execution a Negro Girl named Catharine, aged about ten years, as the property of said Marshall, and after giving the notice required by law of the time, place, manner & terms of sale, I did proceed on the day & hour specefied in said Notice to sell at public auction, the said Negro Girl Catharine, to the highest bidder for Cash, and John Muir being then and there the highest bidder became the purchaser Deliv.d May 20 1850 to Jn.o Muir |
