238. negro girl having to serve according to the will of Aaron Cook to the full end and term of twenty four years from the 31.st day of December in the year Eighteen Hundred and forty two it being all the right title and Estate of the said Aaron Cook of in and to the said negro girl sold by me under authority of the Orphans' Court of Dorchester County In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this 11.th day of March in the year Eighteen hundred & fifty Sam.l D. LeCompte (seal) Edwin E. Medford (seal) State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit: On the 11.th day of March in the year Eighteen Hundred & fifty before the Subscriber a Justice of the Peace of said State in & for said County personally appeared Sam.l D. LeCompte and Edwin E. Medford being know to me to be the persons professing to be parties to the aforegoing instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned: At the same time appeared the said Edwin E. Medford and made Oath on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God that the consideration herein expressed is true and bonafide Charles Corkran Wm James B. Thompson Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the following Ex.d from 70 Bill of Sale was recorded on the 11.th day of March 1850 to wit: James Thompson Exor Know all men by these presents That I James Thompson Executor of W.m J. Howard deceased of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in consideration of the Sum of Three Hundred and fifty Dollars Current money to me in hand paid by William James B. Thompson of Dorchester County and State of Maryland have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said William James B. Thompson his heirs and assigns negro Man Named Joshua a servant until the end of the year Eighteen Hundred and Sixty seven 1867 at which time he will be entitled to his freedom under the will of Jacob Howard deceased and sound in body and mind: To have and To hold the said negro man as a Servant aforesaid until the expiration of the year of Our Lord Eighteen Hundred and Sixty Seven as above bargained and sold unto the said W.m James B. Thompson his heirs Executors administrators and assigns against me the said James Thompson Executor of W.m J. Howard and his and my heirs, Executors and administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend. In testimony whereof I James Thompson Executor as aforesaid and William James B. Thompson have hereto set their hands and affixed seals this twenty seventh day of January Eighteen Hundred and fifty Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of James Thompson Exor of William J Howard (seal) W.m J. B. Thompson (seal) Maryland Dorchester County to wit: On this eleventh day of March in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for said County the within Named James Thompson Exor of W.m J. Howard and W.m Jas B Thompson and acknowledged the within Bill of Sale to be their act and Deed according to the purport true intent and meaning of the same and at the same time came before me William James B.
