225. Algernon S. Piercy Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the following Ex.d from 70 Bill of sale was recorded on the 11.th day of February James Thompson, Ex.r A. D. 1850, To wit: of W.m J. Howard Know all men by these presents that I, James Thompson, Executor of W.m J. Howard, deceased, of Dorchester County and state of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and fifty dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by Algernon S. Piercy of Dorchester County and state Maryland, have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said Algernon S. Piercy, his heirs & Assigns, Negro Man John, to serve untill the end of the year Eighteen hundred & fifty eight 1858, at which time he will be entitled to his freedom under the will of Jacob Howard, deceased, and sound in body and mind: To have and to hold the said Negro Man as a servant aforesaid, untill the expiration of the year Eighteen hundred & fifty eight, 1858, as above bargained & sold, unto the said Algernon S. Piercy, his heirs, executors, Administrators and Assigns, against me the said James Thompson, Executor of William J. Howard, and his heirs, executors and Administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever, shall & will warrant & forever defend. In testimony whereof I, James Thompson and Algernon S. Piercy have hereunto set our hands & affixed our seals this Eleventh day of Feby Eighteen hundred & 50. Piercy (seal) Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On the Eleventh day of February in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifty, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in & for said County, the within named James Thompson, Executor of W.m J. Howard, and Algernon S. Piercy, and Acknowledged the within Bill of sale to be their Act & deed, according to the purport, true intent and meaning of the same And at the same time came before me Algernon S. Piercy, the within grantee within mentioned, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the consideration set forth in this Bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth, according to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1846, Chapter 271, made & provided. Acknowledged before Charles Corkran Rec.d Feb.y 11.th 1850 of Algernon S. Piercy one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of sale.
