224. this ninth day of February in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifty, personally appears Edmond North before the subscriber, one of the Justices of the Peace of the State of Maryland for the City aforesaid, and Acknowledges the above Power of Attorney, or instrument of Writing to be his Act & deed, according to the true intent & meaning thereof. Acknowledged before A. H. Penington Know all men by these presents, that I, Lewis P. Ross, Attorney for Edmond North, of Baltimore City in the state of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred & seventy five dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by Thomas Hughlett, of Dorchester County in the State aforesaid, have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said Thomas Hughlett, his heirs & Assigns, the following Negro, To wit: one Negro Man named Jenkins Miller, aged about twenty eight years, to serve untill the twentieth day of May Eighteen hundred & sixty three and then to be free, (as by reference to a Power of Attorney executed by Edmond North to the said Lewis P. Ross bearing date the ninth day of February 1850 will more full appear. To have and to hold the said Negro Man named Jenkins Miller, as above bargained & sold, unto the said Thomas Hughlett, his heirs, executors, administrators & Assigns, against me the said Lewis P. Ross, Attorney as aforesaid, my heirs, executors & Administrators, and against all & every other person or persons whatsoever, shall & will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In testimony whereof I Lewis P. Ross, Attorney as aforesaid, and Thomas Hughlett have hereto set our hands and affixed our seals this Eleventh day of February Eighteen hundred & fifty. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of L. P. Ross Att.y (seal) Charles Corkran Thomas Hughlett (seal) Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On this Eleventh day of February in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty, personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for said County, the within named Lewis P. Ross, Attorney as aforesaid, and Thomas Hughlett, and Acknowledged the within Bill of Sale to be their Act & deed, according to the purport, true intent & meaning of the same And at the same time came before me; Thomas Hughlett, party grantee within mentioned, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in this Bill of sale, is true and bona fide as therein set forth, according to the Act of Assembly in such case made & provided. Acknowledged before Charles Corkran Rec.d February 11.th 1850 of Thomas Hughlett one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of sale. Wm Jackson Clk |
