220. my negro Woman named Ann Reed, being under twenty eight years of age, of a healthy constitution, sound in mind & body, and capable of labour to procure to herself sufficient food & raiment with other requisite necessaries of life, from & after the fourth day of July in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred & fifty two; Provided Always, that if I die before the fourth day of July in the year aforesaid, then & in that case, I hereby release from slavery, manumit and set free my said Negro Woman, named Ann Reed, at & from the day of my decree. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this nineteenth day of January in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred & fifty. his Witness James Hammersly Skinner x Richardson (seal) Charles Hammersly mark State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On the nineteenth day of January in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty, personally appeared before me the subscriber, one of the Justices of the State of Maryland, in and for Dorchester County. Skinner Richardson, and acknowledged the foregoing deed of Manumission to be his act & deed, according to the Act of Assembly in such case made & provided. James Hammersly James A. Stewart Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the following Ex.d from 50 Bill of sale was recorded on the 4.th day of February 1850. John Stevens {Stamp} Know all men by these presents that I, John Stevens {one dollar} of Dorchester County & state of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of Four hundred dollars, to me in hand paid by James A. Stewart of same County & State, have given, granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do give, grant, bargain & sell my Negro Man called "Joe Webb" to the said James A. Stewart and his heirs and Assigns forever The said "Joe Webb" being a slave for a term of years, and to serve untill the first day of August in the year Eighteen hundred & sixty five and then to be free. In Witness whereof as well I, the said John Stevens and the said James A. Stewart, have to these presents set our hands & seals this sixteenth day of January in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of us John E. Stevens (seal) Charles Corkran James A. Stewart (seal) State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On this 16.th day of January 1850, personally appear before me the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace for the said State & County, John Stevens & James A. Stewart and acknowledged the foregoing instrument of writing to be their Act & deed; And the said James A. Stewart made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration mentioned the said instrument of Writing is bona fide, just & true to the best of his knowledge and belief.
