218. Rook, party grantee, and made Oath that the consideration mentioned in the said Bill of sale is bona fide, just & true, to the best of his knowledge & belief Charles Corkran Robert Spedden of John Be it remembered & it is hereby certified, that Ex.d from 75 the following Bill of Sale was recorded on the Elijah Marshall 15.th day of January A. D. 1850, To wit: Know all men by these presents that I, Elijah Marshall, of Dorchester County and State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred & fifty dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by Robert Spedden of John, Cooks point, of Dorchester County and State of Maryland, have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell, unto the said Robert Spedden of Jn.o C. P., his heirs and Assigns, the following Negroes, Negro Woman Rose Adkins for the term of seven years from the 27.th day of last month, December 1849, and then said Rose to be free, and her child named Thomas aged two years or about that age, slave for life, & Rose for a term, and sound in body & mind: To have and to hold the said Negro Woman Rose Adkinson for the term of seven years from the 27.th day of December 1849, after which I manumit & set free the said Rose, who will then be of the age of thirty eight years, and her child Negro Boy Thomas, aged about two years, a slave for life, as above bargained and sold, unto the said Robert Spedden of John, C. P. his heirs, executors, Administrators and Assigns, against me the said Elijah Marshall, my heirs, executors and Administrators, and against all & any other person or persons whatsoever, shall & will warrant and forever defend. In testimony whereof, I, Elijah Marshall and Robert Spedden of John, C. P. have hereto set their hands and affixed seals this second day of January Eighteen hundred & fifty. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of Elijah Marshall (seal) Robert B. Spedden Thomas R. Cook Robert Spedden of John, C. P. (seal) Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On the second day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifty, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in & for said County, the within named Elijah Marshall & Robert Spedden of Jn.o C. P. & acknowledged the within Bill of Sale to be act & deed, according to the purport, true intent & meaning of the same: And at the same time came before me, Robert Spedden of Jn.o C. P. grantee within mentioned, & made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the consideration set forth in this Bill of sale, is true and bona fide, as therein set forth, according to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1846, Chapter 271, made & provided.
