215 or above bargained & sold, unto the said Thomas Hughlett, his heirs, executors, Administrators and Assigns, against me the said William K. Travers, Adm.r of Samuel Hurst J.r my heirs, executors & administrators, and against all & every other person or persons whatsoever, shall & will warrant & forever defend. In testimony whereof I, William K. Travers, Adm.r and Thomas Hughlett, have hereto set their hands and affixed seals this first day of January eighteen hundred & fifty. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of W. K. Travers (seal) Charles Corkran John Muir Thomas Hughlett (seal) Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On the first day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifty, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for said County, the within named William K. Travers, Adm.r and Thomas Hughlett, and Acknowledged the within Bill of sale to be their Act & deed, according to the purport, true intent & meaning of the same: And at the same time came before me, Thomas Hughlett within mentioned, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the consideration set forth in this Bill of sale is true & bona fide, as therein set forth, according to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1846, Chapter 271, made & provided. Acknowledged before Charles Corkran. 1850 January 1.st Received of Thomas Hughlett the sum of one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of sale. Wm Jackson Clk Thomas M. Flint's Be it remembered & it is hereby certified that the following Certificate of Ex.d Certificate was recorded on the 3.d day of January 1850. Negro Bill 45 State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: I hereby certify that being seized & possessed of a certain Negro Slave, that is to say, a Boy called Bill aged about sixteen, and being desirous to remove and bring the said Boy from the State of Virginia into this State, on my own land, for my own use & benefit, and not for sale, do make out this certificate of the said Negro Slave, agreeably to the Act of Assembly in such case made & provided. Witness my hand & seal this 29.th December in the year of Our Lord 1849. Thomas M. Flint (seal) Dorchester County, To wit: on this 29.th December 1849, the above named Thomas M. Flint, appeared before me the subscriber, one of the Justices of the Peace, in and for the County aforesaid, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that he is a Citizen of the State of Maryland, and that the above is a true & correct list of the said negro slave, and that he hath not removed the said Negro into this State for the purpose of sale, and that he is a slave for life, to the best of his knowledge.
