slavery, liberated, manumitted & set free, and by these presents do hereby
release from slavery, liberate, manumit & set free, my negro Woman Ann
Maria Jolly, being of the age of twenty three years, and able to work & gain
a sufficient livelihood & maintenance, and her the free, manumitted and
discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me, my Executors
or Administrators forever.       In testimony whereof I have hereunto set
my hand and affixed my seal this twenty seventh day of November in
the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred & forty nine.
Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of us

    Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit:   Be it remembered that
on this twenty seventh day of November 1849, personally appears John
R. Creighton, party to the within instrument of writing, before me the
subscriber, a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland for the said
County, and Acknowledges the same to be his act & deed for the purposes
therein mentioned, and the negro woman within named to be henceforth
manumitted & discharged from all services to him, or to any claiming
under him, and to be free & manumitted according to the Act of
Assembly in such cases made & provided.

Peter Harrington           Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that
Paid      To      Ex.d      the following Deed of Manumission was recorded on
Garrison Barnes            the 24.th day of December A. D. 1849, To wit:
                                    Know all men by these presents that I, Peter
Harrington, of Dorchester County, for and in consideration of the good character
of my Negro Man called Garrison Barnes, now aged forty one, and sound in
mind & body, and other considerations moving me thereto, do hereby manumit
and set free the said Garrison from this date.  In Witness whereof I have
hereto set my hand & affixed my seal this 24.th Dec.r 1849

State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit:   On this 24.th Dec.r 1849
