206 Samuel Barnes Be it remembered that the following Record was made the 8th day Paid Ex.d Record of Slaves of October 1849 To wit Louisa Barnes formerly Louisa Foxwell late the wife of Samuel Barnes and now deceased list her slaves for life to wit: Samuel aged about twenty years and Joel aged about eighteen years which slaves the said Samuel Barnes now records and claims as his Own. Witness my hand and seal this first day of October eighteen hundred and forty nine. Samuel Barnes (seal) State of Maryland Be it remembered that the following Bond was recorded Ex.d from 50 on the 27.th day of October 1849 To wit: Thomas H. Hicks & others {Stamp} State of Maryland Dorchester County {three Dollars} To wit: Know all men by these presents that {& fifty Cents} We Thomas H. Hicks, Brice J. Goldsborough and William Rea all of Dorchester County and State of Maryland yeomen are held and firmly bound unto the State of Maryland in the full and just sum of Four thousand three hundred thirty three Dollars and thirty three and a third Cents Current Money of the said State to the payment whereof we hereunto bind Ourselves Our ^heirs^ Executors & Administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents In Witness whereof We have hereunto set our hands and affixed Our Seals this twenty fourth day of October in the year of Eighteen hundred and forty nine. The Condition of the above obligation is such that in Case the above bounden Thomas H Hicks shall faithfully perform the Office of Register of Wills for Dorchester County Aforesaid then the Above Obligation to be Void, otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue in Law Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of Tho H Hicks (seal) Thomas Breerwood Brice J. Goldsborough (seal) W.m Rea (seal) We the Justices of the Orphans Court for Dorchester County Now in Session approve of the Bond and Sureties therein. Witness Our hands Thomas Breerwood John N Dail Algernon Thomas Uriah Todd Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was recorded on Paid from Ex.d 50 the 29.th day of October 1849 To wit: James Geoghegan Know all men by these presents that I James Geoghegan of Dorchester County for and in Consideration of the sum of one hundred and twenty five Dollars and fifty Cents to me in hand paid by Uriah Todd do grant bargain & sell unto the said Uriah Todd My Negro boy John Cornish supposed to be five years and six months old slave for life and sound in Body & mind. To have and to hold the said negro boy John Cornish as above bargained and sold unto the said Uriah Todd his heirs executors administrators and assigns against me the said James Geoghegan my ^heirs^ Executors & administrators and against all every other person or persons Shall and will warrant and forever defend In Witness Whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this 24th day of October 1849.
