200 Mills his wife have granted, bargained and sold conveyed and transferred and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell convey and transfer unto the said John S. Staplefort his heirs and assigns forever the following Negroes To wit: One Negro Woman Leah aged 40 years, one boy James aged 5 years and one girl Catherine aged 18 months children of said Woman Leah slaves for life and now in the possession of the said John S Staplefort To Have and To Hold the said above described Negroes unto the said John S. Staplefort his heirs and assigns forever and to and for No other use intent or purpose whatsoever against us the said Josiah H. Mills and Ellen Jane Mills and our heirs and against all persons whatever Claiming the same or any part thereof In Testimony whereof the said Josiah H. Mills and Ellen Jane Mills have hereunto Subscribed their names and affixed their seals this fourth day of August eighteen Hundred and forty nine. his Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of Josiah H x Mills (seal) D W Tyler mark her Ellen Jane x Mills (seal) mark Maryland Dorchester County Sct: Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on the fourth day of August in the Year eighteen Hundred and forty nine personally Appeared Josiah H Mills and Ellen Jane Mills the party Grantors in the Aforegoing Bill of Sale and acknowledge the same to be their act and deed and delivered the same for the uses and purposes therein Mentioned. And On the same day before me as aforesaid personally appeared. John S Staplefort the Grantee Names in the aforegoing Bill of Sale and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration mentioned in the aforegoing Bill of Sale is true and bonafide do therein set forth. Staplefort Sept 16.th 1850 William Hubbard Be it remembered that the following Bill paid Ex.d from 65 of sale was recorded on the 11.th day of August 1849 James Wheeler J.r Know all men by these presents that I, James Wheeler, J.r of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of ninety dollars, current money, to me in hand paid by William Hubbard of the same County and State aforesaid, and before the sealing & delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof I the said James Wheeler J.r do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said William Hubbard, his Executors, Administrators & Assigns one man and one Yoke of Oxen, and now in the Occupation of James Wheeler J.r To have and to hold all & singular the before mentioned Mare & oxen above bargained and, or mentioned & intended so to be, to the said William Hubbard, his heirs, executors, Administrators & assigns forever And I the said James Wheeler J.r, for myself, my heirs, executors & Administrators, all & singular the said Mare & ^one yoke of^ Oxen unto the said William Hubbard, his Executors, Administrators & Assigns, against me, |
