188. a servant in our family, in consequence of the affection & fidelity of the said Negro Woman to my ^said^ deceased sister. Having recently purchased the said Negro Woman from my Brother, Joseph H. Byns, I, the said James A. Byns, in consideration of the above recited premises, do hereby manumit and forever set free the said Negro Woman Brittania, the said Brittania being under forty five years of age, in good health, and in all respects capacitated to gain for herself a sufficient support and maintenance: And I the said James A. Byns do hereby declare the said Brittania free, clear & discharged from all manner of servitude to me the said James A. Byns, or to my heirs, executors, Administrators or Assigns forever. In testimony whereof I the said James A. Byns have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 4.th day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty nine. Byns and acknowledges the foregoing Deed of Manumission, or instrument of Writing to be his act & deed for the purposes therein mentioned. Charles Corkran J. P. D. 1849, To wit: To all whom it may concern, be it known, that I, sarah Pattison of Dorchester County in the state of Maryland, for divers good causes & considerations me thereunto moving, have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted & set free, and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free my negro Girl named Annette Woolford, (being of the age of two years) on the first day of May in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty seven, and her the said negro Girl Annette Woolford I do declare to be free, manumitted & discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me, my Executors & Administrators after the above named first day of May in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty seven.
