State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit:   On this twenty third day of
May, A. D. 1849, before me, the subscriber, one of the Justices of the Peace,
in & for the said County, appears Ignatius B. Newton, and acknowledges
the foregoing Bill of sale, or writing, to be his act & deed according to the
true intent & meaning thereof and the Act of Assembly in such case made
and provided   At the same time personally appeared Capt Joseph Mobray,
of the firm of Charles & Mobray, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely
of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in the foregoing
Bill of sale, or writing, is true & bona fide as therein set forth.
Taken & Acknowledged & sworn before               James Rea


                       "Paid"      Be it remembered that the following Deed of Manumission was
Harry Lee Thompson      recorded on the 29th day of May in the year of Our Lord
Paid         To                  Eighteen Hundred and forty nine   To wit:
    Woman Ann & child   State of Maryland Dorchester County To wit
                                      To all whom it may concern be it known that I Harry
Lee Thompson of Dorchester County and State aforesaid for divers good Causes and Considerations
me thereunto moving have released from Slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by
these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named
Ann being of the age of forty ^four^ years and able to work and gain sufficient livelihood and
maintenance and her child Amy  I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged
from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or Administrators forever.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal this 29 day of
May 1849.                                                                                     his

Maryland Dorchester County Court  Be it remembered that this 29th day of May in the
Year of Our Lord Eighteen Hundred and forty nine personally appears Harry Lee
Thompson party to the within Instrument of writing before me the Subscriber a Justice
of the peace of the State of Maryland for the said County and acknowledges the same
to be his Act and deed for the purposes within mentioned.

James A. Byns      Be it remembered that the following Deed of Manumission
Paid Ex.d  to  60   was recorded on the 4.th day of June 1849, To wit:
Brittania                 Know all Men by these presents that I James A.
                              Byns, of Dorchester County & State of Maryland, for
and in consideration of the sum of Five dollars, current Money,
to me in hand paid, at and before the sealing & delivery of these presents,
the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, and also in consideration
of the attachment and devotion of my deceased sister Rebecca, which
attachment was formed by my said Sister to negro Woman Brittania,
