147 Mary Ann daughter of the Aforesaid Leah being of the age of one year (last September) as Soon as she the said Mary Ann Shall arrive at the age of fourteen years and then the said Negroes Leah Adkinson and Mary Ann I do declare to be free manumitted and discharged from all manner of Service or Servitude to me my Executors or Administrators forever that is to say Leah to be free from the day of the date hereof and Mary Ann to be free when she arrives at the age of fourteen years. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Affixed my Seal this twenty Eighth day of December in the Year of Our Lord Eighteen Hundred and forty Eight (1848.) Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of Charles Corkran Tho H Hicks Robert Parker (seal) Received on the day of the date within mentioned the Sum of One Dollar Current Money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Test Charles Corkran Tho H Hicks Robert Parker (Seal) Dorchester County Sct Be it remembered that on this twenty Eighth day of December ion the year of Our Lord Eighteen Hundred forty Eight (1848.) personally Appears Robert Parker party to the within instrument of writing before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland for the Said County & Acknowledges the Same to be his act and deed for the same purposes within mentioned and negroes Arthur named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged (that is to Say Leah from the day of the date hereof and Mary Ann when she shall arrive at the age of fourteen years) and discharged from all Service to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the Act of Assembly in such Cases made and provided. Acknowledged before Charles Corkran Denis Ross Jr Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was recorded on the 29 day 75 from Exd of December 1848. To wit: Moses Young Know all men by these presents that I Moses Young of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of the Sum of Thirty six Dollars Current Money to me in hand by Lewis Ross Jr of Dorchester County in the said State at and before sealing and delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof I the said Moses Young do hereby acknowledge, have granted bargained & sold and by these presents do grant bargain and Sell unto said Lewis Ross Jr his Executor Administrator and Assigns all the following property to wit One black buffalo Steer, with white back, one white steer with Crumple Horns, one red Steer one pied Steer with three white Spots about his hips, one pair Cart Wheels, one ash tongue wood rack and loading Chain all and Singular which said Goods and Chattels are known in possession of said Moses Young To Have and To Hold all and Singular the said Steers Cart &C and other the premises above bargain and Sold or mentioned and intended so to be the said Lewis Ross Jr hs Executors, Administrators and Assigns forever. I the said Moses Young for myself my heirs Executors and administrators all and Singular the said Steer Cart &c and other the premises unto the Said Lewis Ross Jr his Executors Administrators and Assigns against the said Moses Young my Executors and Administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents of all and singular which said Steers Cart &c and other the premises I the Said Moses Young have put the said Lewis Ross Jr in full |
