146. full and just sum of Two thousand dollars, current money of the United States, to be paid to the said state or its attorney, to the which payment well and truly to be made & done, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and Administrators jointly & severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this seventeenth day of December 1848. The Condition of the above Obligation is such that if the above bounden William W. Davis shall well and truly execute the Office of Constable in Election district number two in Dorchester County, in all things appertaining thereto, and shall well and truly account for all monies placed in his hands for collection, and shall also well and truly pay all sums of money received by him, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise of full force & virtue in law. Smith (seal) Dorchester County, To wit: On this 18.th day of December 1848, personally appeared before me the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the County aforesaid, William W. Le Compte & William Rea, and made the following Oath, To wit: We William W. Le Compte & William Rea, subscribing Witnesses to the above Bond, do make Oath that William W. Davis, William V. M. Edmondson and Thomas K. Smith, obligors mentioned in the said Bond, did, severally in our presence, sign, seal and deliver the said Bond as their Act and deed, for the purposes therein mentioned. Sworn before me on the day above mentioned. Charles Corkran. By the Commissioners of Dorchester County, December 18.th Anno Domini 1848. Jones Thomas Andrews Robert Parker Negro Be it remembered that the following Manumission was recorded Paid To Exd December 28 1848 To wit: Leah Atkinson and To all whom it may may Concern, be it known that I Robert Parker Mary Ann her daughter of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for divers Good Causes and Considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of One dollar Current Money to me in hand paid have released from Slavery liberated Manumitted and Set free and by these presents do hereby release from Slavery liberate manumit and Set free my Negro Woman Leah Adkinson being of the age of thirty nine Years and able to Work and gain a Sufficient livelihood and Maintenance and also my Negro Slave |
