148 possession by delivering to him the said Lewis Ross Jr the said the said Steers Cart &c at the sealing and delivery (of) these presents in the name of the whole premises hereby bargained and Sold or mentioned and intend to be so unto him the said Lewis Ross Jr as aforesaid. E. M. Frazier George Wallace Be it remembered that the following bill of Sale was recorded January 6 1849 60 from Exd To wit Edward T. Edgar Know all men by these presents, that I Edward T. Edgar of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in consideration of the Sum of Four hundred dollars current money to me in hand paid by George Wallace of Dorchester County and State of Maryland have granted bargained and Sold and by these presents do grant bargain and Sell unto the Said George Wallace his heirs and assigns negro man Draper aged twenty three years and a Slave for life and Sound in body and mind. To Have and To Hold the said negro man Draper a Slave for life as afsd as above bargained and sold unto the Said George Wallace his heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns against me the Said Edward T. Edgar my heirs Executors and Administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend. In witness whereof I Edward T. Edgar have hereto set my hand and affixed Seal this 5th day of January Eighteen Hundred and forty nine Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of Edward T Edgar (Seal) Charles Corkran Maryland Dorchester County to wit: On the sixth day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty nine personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for said County the within named Edward T. Edgar and acknowledged the within bill of Sale to be his act and deed according to the purport true intent and meaning of the same and at the same time came before me George Wallace within mentioned and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the consideration set forth in the bill of Sale is true and bonafid as therein set forth according to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1848, Chapter 271, made and provided. Acknowledged before Charles Corkran Rec Jany 6 1849 of John R Creighton one dollar in lieu of a Stamp on this bill of Sale Wm Jackson Clk. Del to George Wallace March 19 1849 Shadrack Mitchell Be it remembered that the following Manumission was recorded on the 10 day of 55 to Exd January 1849, To wit John Wall Maryland Dorchester County to wit: To all whom it may concern be it known that Shadrack Mitchell of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations me thereunto moving as also in further Consideration of one dollar Current Money to me in hand paid have released from Slavery, liberated manumitted and set |
