138. Forty dollars, current money, to us in hand paid by Francis Price of said County, before the delivery of these presents, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, we the said Thomas H. Hooper and Ezekiel R. Hooper have granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell, unto the said Francis Price, his heirs and Assigns forever, a negro woman named Lydia, aged about fifty years and a slave for life, and now in our possession. To have and to hold the said Negro Woman Lydia unto the said Francis Price his heirs and Assigns forever, to his and their only use and benefit, and for no other use, intent or purpose whatsoever, against us the said Thomas H. Hooper and Ezekiel R. Hooper, and our heirs, and all persons whatsoever. In Witness whereof the said Thomas H. Hooper and Ezekiel R. Hooper have hereto set their hands and affixed their seals this Eleventh day of November Eighteen hundred & forty eight. Signed, sealed & delivered in presence of Tho. H. Hooper (seal) Charles Corkran E. R. Hooper (seal) Maryland sc. On this 11.th day of November in the year 1848, before the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace for the County and state aforesaid, personally appears Thomas H. Hooper and Ezekiel R. Hooper, parties grantor to the within and aforegoing bill of Sale, and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed, delivered the same for the uses and purposes therein mentioned And on the same day & year aforesaid, personally appeared before me as aforesaid the before mentioned Francis Price, the party grantee in the aforegoing Bill of Sale, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration mentioned in the within and aforegoing Bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth. Acknowledged and sworn before and Certified by Charles Corkran. Rec.d December 8th 1848. Samuel Higgins December 2.d 1848. Know all men by these presents Ex.d from 75 that I James W. Henry of the Town of Vienna in James W. Henry Dorchester County, Maryland, as Agent or Attorney for Isaac Nevitt Steele of Baltimore City and State aforesaid, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred & twenty five dollars, current money of the United States, to me in hand paid by Samuel Higgins, of Dorchester County & State aforesaid, on account and for the use of the aforesaid Isaac Nevitt Steele, at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have bargained, sold & delivered unto the said Samuel Higgins, and by these presents do bargain, sell & deliver unto the said Samuel Higgins, one Negro Woman Esther a slave Bill of Sale del.d to Sam.l Higgins June 11th 1855. |
