And I, the said Nancy Jones, for myself, my heirs, executors and Administrators, the said Negro Boy Henry Macer, unto the said John Wesley Woolford, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, against me the said Nancy Jones, my Executors and Administrators, and against all and every other person or persons, shall and will warrant & forever defend by these presents. In Witness whereof the said Nancy Jones and John Wesley Woolford have hereunto set their hands & seals on this ninth day of August in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight. her In presence of Nancy x Jones (seal) James Hammersly W.m R. Tall mark John Wesley Woolford (seal) State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: Be it remembered that on this ninth day of August in the year Eighteen hundred & forty eight, before me the subscriber, one of the Justices of the Peace of said state, in & for said County, personally appears Nancy Jones, and makes Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the consideration set forth in the aforegoing bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth, and at the same time and place Acknowledged the said Bill of sale to be her Act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Acts of Assembly in such case made & provided. Taken & Acknowledged before me James Hammersly Levin Insley Be it remembered that the following Bill of sale Ex.d from 55 was recorded on the 28.th day of August 1848, To wit: Margaret Wingate {Stamp} Know all men by these presents that I, {one dol.} Margaret Wingate, of Dorchester County & State of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred dollars, current money of the United States, to her in hand paid by Levin Insley, of the County & state aforesaid, the receipt whereof I do hereby Acknowledge, have granted, bargained, sold & delivered, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell & deliver, unto the said Levin Insley My Negroes slaves Jane & her child William, slaves for life, which said slaves, Jane & William, I will warrant & defend to the said Levin Insley, his heirs, executors, Administrators and Assigns forever, against me, my Executors & Administrators, and against every other person or persons whomsoever.
