Certify that at the same time John Hawkins, party Grantee in said
Mortgage, appeared before me and made Oath on the Holy Evangely
of Almighty God that the Consideration mentioned in the said Mortgage
is truly and bona fide due him to the best of his knowledge
and belief as therein specefied.   Acknowledged & sworn before

William L. Hearne      Be it remembered that the following Bill of
  Ex.d   from      70     Sale was recorded on the 14.th day of August 1848.
W.m B. Le Compte    {Stamp}      This Indenture made this 14.th day
                                 {one dol}  of August in the year Eighteen hundred
and forty eight, between William B. Le Compte of Dorchester County &
State of Maryland, of the one part, and William L. Hearne of the
same State & County, of the other part.  Witnesseth, that the said
William B. Le Compte, for and in consideration of the sum of
Three hundred & fifty dollars, current money, in hand paid, at
and before the sealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof
is hereby acknowledged, has bargained & sold unto the said
William L. Hearne, and by these presents do grant, bargain and
sell, release, convey & confirm, unto the said William L. Hearne,
his heirs, executors, administrators or Assigns, a negro Boy
named Garrison, aged Eighteen years & about six months, as
a slave for a term of years.  And it is the express agreement,
meaning & understanding of the parties to this instrument of the
first and second part thereof, that the said Garrison is sold to
be the slave of, and to serve the said William L. Hearne untill
he arives at the age of forty one years, and then to be free.
To have and to hold the said negro Boy Garrison, above described,
unto the said William L. Hearne, his heirs, executors, administrators
& Assigns, for the term of years herein described.  And I the said William
B. Le Compte, before the sealing & delivery of these presents, have put
the said William L Hearne in the full and complete possession
of the said Negro Boy.   In testimony whereof we the said William
B. Le Compte, party of the first part, and William L. Hearne, party of
the second part, have hereunto set our hands & seals, on the day &
year first above written.               W.m B. Le Compte party of first part   (Seal)
Signed, sealed & delivered in the
presence of Charles Corkran      W.m L. Hearn party of second part      (Seal)

State of Maryland, Dorchester County, Sct.   Be it remembered and it
is hereby Certified, that on this fourteenth day of August, in the
year Eighteen hundred & forty eight, before the subscriber a Justice

Delivered to William L. Hearne the 15.th day of December 1856
