Maryland Dorchester County, To wit:   On the 20.th day of July
Anno Domini 1848 the above named James Le Compte appears
before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace for the
County and state aforesaid, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of
Almighty God that he is a Citizen of the State of Maryland, and
resides in Dorchester County, and that the above is a true & faithful
list of the said Negro slave, and that he hath not removed the same
into this state for the purpose of sale, and that the said Negro Hannah
is a Slave for life, to the best of his knowledge.

John Hawkins            Be it remembered that the following Mortgage Bill of
    70  from   Ex.d      Sale was recorded on the 21.st day of July 1848, To wit:
Joseph Morine           Know all men by these presents that I Joseph
                                  Morine of Dorchester County, for and in consideration
of the sum of sixty dollars, current money, to me in hand paid
by John Hawkins of said County, before the execution of these presents,
the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said Joseph Morine
has granted, bargained, sold & transfered, and by these presents doth grant,
bargain, sell and transfer unto the said John Hawkins, his heirs & Assigns,
one four wheeled Carriage   To have and to hold the said above described
property unto the said John Hawkins, his heirs and Assigns
forever, to his and their sole use and benefit, and for no other use, intent
or purpose whatsoever against me the said Joseph Morine &
my heirs, and against all persons whatsoever:   Provided Nevertheless
that if the said Joseph Morine do & shall well and
truly pay unto the said John Hawkins the full and just sum
of sixty dollars, on or before the first day of September next, with
interest thereon, then and in such case these presents, and every matter
and thing herein contained shall cease and become utterly null & void,
any thing herein contained to the Contrary Notwithstanding.      In
Witness whereof the said Joseph Morine has hereunto set his hand
and affixed his seal this fourth day of July Eighteen hundred and
forty eight.
Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of      Joseph Morine   (Seal)

                                        Maryland, Dorchester County fs.   Be it
remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this fourth day of
July Eighteen hundred and forty eight, personally appears Joseph
Morine, before the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace in and for
said County, and Acknowledged the within and aforegoing Mortgage,
or instrument of writing to be his Act and deed, and delivered the
same for the uses and purposes therein mentioned, according to the Act
