108 I the said Elizabeth Corkran have granted, bargained, sold, conveyed and transfered, and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, convey and transfer, unto the said William I. Benjamin, his heirs and Assigns, the following property, Tow it: Four Feather beds, Bedsteads & furniture, one Mahogany side board and contents, one dozen wooden seat Chairs, one Book Case and Writing Desk, one pair of Brass And Irons, Shovel & Tongs, one Fender, one Franklin Stove, one mahogany water stand, two wash Stands, one pair of Mahogany dining Tables, two yarn Carpets, one settee, one gilt frame looking Glass, one Corner Cupboard and contents one Kitchen Table and one set of Kitchen furniture, all of which property is now in the House occupied by the said William I. Benjamin. To have and to hold the said above named goods & chattels, unto the said William I. Benjamin, his heirs and assigns, to his and their sole use & benefit, against me the said Elizabeth Corkran and my heirs, and against all persons whatsoever: Provided Nevertheless, and it is the true intent and meaning of these presents, and of the said parties hereunto, that if the said Elizabeth Corkran, her heirs or assigns, shall pay, or cause to be paid, unto the said William I. Benjamin, his heirs and Assigns the full and just sum of Seventy dollars and forty nine cents, and also whatever sum in addition to the same may be due and owing to the said William I. Benjamin for the Board of the said Elizabeth Corkran and her Husband & Children up to the time they shall cease to board with the said William I. Benjamin, on or before the first day of July next ensuing the date of these presents, then these presents and every matter and thing herein contained shall cease and be utterly null and void, any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding; it being the true intent and meaning of these presents and of the parties hereunto, that the said goods and Chattels are mortgaged to the said William I. Benjamin to secure him the payment of the aforesaid sum of Seventy dollars and forty nine cents, and also whatever sum in addition may be due to the said William I. Benjamin for Board as aforesaid. In Witness whereof the said Elizabeth Corkran, wife of the said Charles Corkran, hath hereunto subscribed her name & affixed his seal this nineteenth day of May Eighteen hundred and forty eight. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of Elizabeth Corkran (Seal) James Rea. State of Maryland, Dorchester County, ss Be it remembered, and it is hereby certified that on this nineteenth day of May in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight, Elizabeth Corkran personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for said County, and acknowledged the within and aforegoing Mortgage bill of sale to be her Act and deed, and the property therein mentioned to be the right and estate of William I. |
