against me my executors and administrators and against all and every
other person or persons whomsoever & delivering the same or any part thereof
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventh
day of March Eighteen hundred and forty three

Maryland Dorchester County to wit on this seventh day of March
Eighteen hundred and forty three before me the subscriber a Justice of the
peace of the said State in and for the county aforesaid personally appeared
Alfred Wheatley and acknowledged the within writing to be his act and
deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of
assembly in such case made and provided
                         Acknowledged before         Samuel Twilley


Thomas K Smith      Be it remembered that the following bill of sale
Ex.d      from            was recorded on the 27 March 1843 to wit
Wm McClayland      Know all men by these presents that I William
McClayland of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for and
in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to me in hand paid
by Thomas K Smith of the County and state aforesaid have granted
bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and
sell unto the said Thomas K Smith my negro woman named Jane
slave for life and sound in body and in mind to Have and to hold
the said negro as above bargained and sold unto the said Thomas
K Smith his heirs executors administrators and assigns against
me the said William McClayland my heirs executors and administrators
and against all and every other person or persons shall and
will warrant defend  In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and affixed my seal this tenth day of March Anno Domini 1843

State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit   Be it remembered and it
is hereby certified that on this the tenth day of March in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three before me the subscriber
a a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland and in the
county aforesaid personally appeared William McClayland he
being Known to me to be the person named and professing to be a party
to the aforegoing bill of sale or instrument of writing and acknowledged
the said bill of sale to his act and deed  In testimony I have
hereunto subscribed my name
