before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and
for the County and state aforesaid (he being the party
granted within named) and acknowledge the
within bill of sale or instrument of writing to be his
act and deed and the goods and chattles and
other the premises therein mentioned and
hereby bargained and sold to be the right and
property of the within named WVM Edmondson
the party granted his heirs and assigns forever according
to the purport true intent and meaning
of the said Bill of sale or instrument of writing and
the act of assembly in such case made and provided
Taken and certified the day and year above written

Thomas J H Eccleston   Be it remembered that the
Ex.d      To                    following manumission was
Negro William               recorded on 2 Jany anno 1843 to wit
To all persons to whom it doth or may concern  Be it Known
that I Thomas J H Eccleston of black water in the county of
Dorchester and state of maryland for divers good causes
and considerations we thereunto runing do hereby
release from slavery liberate manumit and set free
from and after the first day of January which will be
in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty
three one negro man slave belonging to me and now
in my possession by the name of William or by whatsoever
name she may be Known or called being at this ^time^ of the
age of thirty five years and the said negro man Slave
named William I do declare to be thenceforth that
is to say from and after the said first day of January
in the year of our Lord 1843 free as manumited and
discharged from all names of servitude or service to
me my executors or administrators and from all manner
of claim or right of claim of servitude or service by me my
Executors or administrators forever   I testimony whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal
this second day of January in the year of our Lord 1843
