William T Vickers      Be it remembered that the following bill of sale
Ex.d   form                was recorded on Jany 18th anno domini 1843
William Short             to wit      Know all men by these presents that
I William Short of Dorchester county and state of maryland for
and in Consideration of the sum of One hundred dollars current
money of the United States to me in hand paid by W T Vickers
before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof
I do hereby acknowledge and I have granted bargained
sold transferred and made over and by these presents do
grant bargain sell transfer; and make over unto the
said William T Vickers my negro boy Dick aged about
nineteen years slave for life and sound in body and
in mind  To have and to hold the said negro boy Dick
unto the said William T Vickers his heirs and assigns
forever to his and their sold use and uses forever and for no
other use intent or purpose whatsoever  And I the said
William Short for myself my heirs executors and administrators
do covenant and agree to and with the said
William T Vickers his heirs executors administrators
and assigns that I will warrant and defend the above
described property against men and my heirs and against
all persons whatsoever.  In testimony whereof I have
hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal
this sixteenth day of January Eighteen hundred and
forty three

Maryland Dorchester county sc  On this sixteenth day
of January Eighteen hundred and forty three before the
subscriber a justice of the peace for the county and state aforesaid
personally appears William Short and acknowledges
the above Bill of sale or instrument of writing to
be his act and deed and delivered the same for the uses
and purposes therein mentioned according to the true
intent & meaning thereof and the acts of assembly in
such cases made & provided
