and assigns my negro slaves called "Sarah" aged about twenty one, negro
Boy called "Robert" aged about Eight years, and negro Boy John aged
about seven months all slaves for life   To have and to hold
the said Negro slaves to the said James A. Stewart and his heirs and
assigns forever   Whereas the said George H. W. Wingate stands indebted
to the said James A. Stewart in the sum of one hundred
and ninety nine dollars for which he has executed his obligation
and payable Eighteen months after date & has given power to confess
Judgment thereon at the next term of Dorchester County Court
Now the Condition of this transfer is such that if the said
George H. W. Wingate, his heirs, Ex.rs, Adm.rs shall well and truly
pay to said James A. Stewart the said sum of Money with interest
at the time stipulated, to Wit; Eighteen months from date then
this transfer to be null & void else of full force & virtue.   In
Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand & seal this 15.th Jan.y
1847.

Dorchester County, To wit:
On this 15.th Jan.y 1847 personally appears before me the subscriber
a Justice of the Peace for said County George H. W. Wingate and
acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act & deed
    Acknowledged before                                 Robt R Robertson  J. P.


Alward Johnson      Be it remembered that the following Bill
Ex.d   from              of Sale was recorded on the 29.th day of January
Arnold Edgar          1847, To wit:
                               Know all men by these presents that I Arnold
(Stamp)     Edgar of Dorchester County in the state of Maryland for
(one doll)   and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars
current Money to me in hand paid by Alward Johnson of the
County and State aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby Acknowledge,
have granted, bargained, sold & delivered and by
these presents do grant, bargain, sell & deliver unto the said
Alward Johnson, my Negro Man slaves William a slave
for life which said slave William I will warrant and
forever defend to the said Alward Johnson, his Executors,
Administrators and Assigns against me, my Executors
and Administrators and against every other person or persons
whomsoever.  In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my
name and affixed my seal this the 18.th day of January 1847.
