have released of Slavery, liberated, manumitted and set free and by
these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free
my Negro Man named Benjamin Jennifer being of the age of forty four
years and within and under the age of forty five years of healthy constitution
sound in mind & body and capable by labour to procure to
himself a sufficient maintenance in food & raiment and him the
said Negro man named Benjamin Jennifer I do declare to be
henceforth free, manumitted and discharged from all manner of
servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators forever
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my
Seal this thirtieth day of December in the year of Our Lord
Eighteen hundred and forty six
Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of us     Anne H. Bayly   (Seal)

On this thirtieth day of December in year of Our Lord Eighteen
hundred and forty six personally appeared before me the subscriber a
Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester
County the within named Ann H. Bayly party grantor in the
foregoing deed of Manumission and Acknowledged the same to be
her Act and deed to the intent and purpose therein mentioned

Robert B. Spedden      Be it remembered that the following Bill of sale
Ex.d       from              was recorded on the 31.st day of December 1846, To wit:
Delia Byns                     (Stamp)     Know all men by these presents that I
                                    (one Dol.)   Delia Byns of Dorchester County in the
State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Five
hundred dollars current money of the United States to me in hand
paid by Robert B. Spedden of the same County and State aforesaid
the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, hath granted, bargained
and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said
Robert B. Spedden, his heirs and Assigns forever the following Negroes
that is to say Margaret a woman aged about twenty four years
Mary Ann a Girl aged about six years, Edward a Boy aged about
five years, David a boy aged about three years and Ann Eliza a
Girl aged about Eight months.  To have and to hold the said Negroes
above mentioned unto the said Robert B. Spedden his heirs & Assigns
forever to the only proper use and behoof of the said Robert B.
Spedden his heirs and Assigns forever   And the said Delia Byns
for herself, her heirs, Executors and Administrators do covenant,
grant, promise and agree with the said Robert B. Spedden, his
