the said William Jackson in the sum of Five hundred dollars
current money and to secure the payment thereof is willing to execute these
presents   Now This Indenture Witnesseth that the said Noah
I. Rauleigh for and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of
five dollars current money to him in hand paid by the said William
Jackson at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt
of which is hereby acknowledged hath granted, bargained and sold and by
these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said William Jackson
his Executors, Administrators and Assigns the following Negroes, Slaves
for life, To wit:  Boy Jinkins about Eighteen years of Age, Woman
Emily about twenty five years of Age and her female child Maria
aged about Eighteen Months.   To have and to hold all & singular
the said Negroes Jinkins, Emily & Maria slaves for life unto the
said William Jackson, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns to
his and their only proper use & behoof.   Provided Always, and it
is declared to be the true intent and meaning of these presents that
if the said Noah I. Rauleigh do and shall well and truly pay or
cause to be paid unto the said William Jackson, his Executors, Administrators
or Assigns the full sum of Five hundred dollars current Money
with legal interest for the same on or before the first day of January in
the year Eighteen hundred and forty Eight then and in such case
these presents and every matter and thing herein contained shall cease,
determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes any thing
herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding.  And the said Noah
I. Rauleigh, for himself, his heirs, Executors and Administrators doth
promise to pay or cause to be paid unto the said William Jackson
his Executors, Administrators or Assigns the said sum of Five
hundred dollars current money together with interest for the same
after the rate aforesaid and at the time herein before set forth and
agreed for the payment thereof.  In testimony whereof the said Noah
I. Rauleigh has hereunto set his hand & seal the day and year
first herein before written

Dorchester County sc   Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified
that on this 29.th day of December 1846 personally appeared
before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for said County
Noah I. Rauleigh and acknowledged the above instrument of
writing to be his act and deed according to the Acts of Assembly
in such cases made and provided.
