John S. Staplefort      Be it remembered that the following Mortgage Bill
Ex.d      from             of Sale was recorded on the 20.th day of November 1846.
Isaac H. Andrews   State of Maryland Stamp   Know all men by these presents that I
                                                 15                  Isaac H. Andrews of Dorchester County
                                               Cents              
for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and ninety six dollars
and eight cents current money of Maryland to me in hand paid by
John S. Staplefort of said County at and before the sealing and delivery of
these presents the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge and I the said
Isaac H. Andrews am fully satisfied, contented and paid, have granted, bargained,
sold, conveyed, transfered and set over and by these presents do grant,
bargain, sell, convey, transfer and set over unto the said John S. Staplefort
his heirs and assigns forever the following personal property, To wit:  one
Negro Woman Harriet and her two children Lovey Hester and Uriah
slaves for life and now in my possession.  To have and to hold the said
above described negroes unto the said John S. Staplefort his heirs and
Assigns forever to his and their sole use and uses forever and to and for
no other use, intent or purpose whatsoever against me and my heirs &
against all persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same
or any part thereof.  Provided Nevertheless and it is the true intent
and meaning of these presents and of the said parties hereunto that if the
said Isaac H. Andrews do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be
paid unto the said John S. Staplefort his heirs or assigns within two
years from the date hereof the full and just sum of two hundred &
ninety six dollars and eight cents current money of Maryland then and
in such case these presents and every matter and thing herein contained shall
cease and become utterly null and void any thing herein contained to the
contrary notwithstanding.  In Witness whereof the said Isaac H. Andrews
has hereunto subscribed his name and affixed his seal this Eighteenth
day of November in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and forty six.   Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of   Isaac H. Andrews   (Seal)
