360. release from slavery, manumit, liberate and set free the aforesaid negro woman named Caroline Kennard being of the age of twenty nine years together with her son Hampton Kennard being of the age of five years and both able to gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and them the said negro woman Caroline and her said son Hampton I do declare to be hence forth free, manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me, my Executors or Administrators forever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this nineteenth day of June in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty six. Henry party to the within instrument before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland for the said County and Acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned. John Elliott Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was Paid from Ex.d recorded on the 26.th day of May 1846, To wit: Sam.l Pattison Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Pattison of Dorchester County and state of Maryland Administrator of Thomas E. Brown late of the County and state aforesaid deceased for the consideration of the sum of one hundred and ninety seven dollars current money to me in hand paid by John Elliott of Caroline County & State of Maryland the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained, sold, delivered and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and deliver unto the said John Elliott a negro Girl called Marthy a slave for a term of years which term is to expire the first day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred & seventy as will more fully appear by reference to the records of Dorchester County as being there manumitted which said Slave Marthy I will warrant and defend to the said John Elliott during the above mentioned term of years to him his executors, administrators and assigns against me my Executors and Administrators and against every other person or persons whomsoever.
