the said William Meekins, his executors, administrators ad assigns
against me the said Robert Meekins, my executors and administrators
and against all and every person and persons whomsoever shall & will
warrant and forever defend by these presents.  In Witness whereof I
the said Robert Meekins have hereunto set my hand and seal this
seventh day of April in the year Eighteen hundred & forty six

State of Maryland Dorchester County, To wit:   On the seventh
day of April in the year eighteen hundred and forty six before
me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland
in and for the said County personally appeared Robert Meekins
and acknowledged the foregoing instrument of writing or bill of
sale to be his Act and deed according to the true intent and
meaning thereof and the Act of Assembly in such Case made
and provided                                          James Hammersly


Charles Shenton           Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale
Ex.d   from                   was recorded on the 8.th day of April 1846, To wit:
Stewart Geoghegan      Know all men by these presents that I Stewart
                                    Geoghegan of Dorchester County & State of Maryland
for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred dollars
to me in hand paid by Charles Shenton of the same County and
State aforesaid have granted, bargained & sold and by these
presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the afs.d Charles
Shenton, his heirs and Assigns forever A Negro Girl Amanda
To have and to hold the above mentioned property unto
the said Charles Shenton his heirs and Assigns forever to the
only proper use and benefit of the said Charles Shenton
Witness my hand and seal this the 31.st day of March
eighteen hundred and forty six
