314. hold stuff, farming implements and other premises we the said Levin Phillips and Henry M. Phillips have put Reuben E. Phillips in possession by delivering him one chair at the sealing and delivery of these presents in the name of the whole premises hereby bargained and sold or intended so to be bargained and sold unto the said Reuben E. Phillips. In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this first day of August Eighteen hundred & forty five Levin Phillips (seal) Signed, sealed & acknowledged in presence of Robert R. Robertson Henry M. Phillips (seal) State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: Be it remembered & it is hereby Certified that on the first of August eighteen hundred and forty five personally appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the state of Maryland in and for Dorchester County Levin Phillips and Henry M. Phillips the grantors in above named Bill of sale and acknowledged the same to be their Act and deed. In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals the day and year aforesaid. Taken & acknowledged before Robt R. Robertson Thomas B. Travers Be it remembered that the following Mortgage Ex.d from Bill of sale was recorded on the 25.th day of John H. Ma Guire August 1845, To wit: Maryland, Dorchester County. Know all men by these presents that I John Ma Guire of said in the State aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to me in hand paid by Thomas B. Travers of said County and State aforesaid, have granted, bargained & sold and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto the said Thomas B. Travers the following described Negroes, To wit: one Negro Woman Rachel forty years and one Girl Jane aged three years, Slaves for life and sound in body and mind and now in the possession of said McGuire. To have and to hold the said Negroes Rachel and Jane as above bargained and sold unto the said Thomas B. Travers his ^heirs^ Executors, administrators and Assigns against the said John McGuire, my heirs, Executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons shall and will warrant and defend; Provided always & it is the true intent and meaning of these presents and of the parties hereunto that if the said John McGuire, his heirs, Executors or administrators do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Thomas B. Travers, his Executors, Administrators or assigns the said full sum of one hundred dollars current money of Deld Tho B Traverse 17 March 1846 |
