Dorchester County, To wit:  on the 21 day of April 1845 personally appeared
before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for the County and state
aforesaid John Muir and Algernon Thomas and made the following Oath
To wit:  We John Muir and Algernon Thomas subscribing Witnesses to the above
Bond do make Oath that William Bell, Henry Bibby and John Parvin
obligors mentioned in the said Bond did severally in our presence sign,
seal and deliver the said Bond as their act and deed for the purposes
therein mentioned.  Sworn before me on the day above mentioned
Approved by the Commissioners                                          LeCompte
April 21 1845   Test William Rea Clerk C. D. C.


James Thompson           Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale
       from          Ex.d      was recorded on the 23.d day of April 1845, To wit:
Samuel M.cCollester      Know all men by these presents that I Samuel
                                      M.cCollester of Dorchester County in the State of
Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred
dollars to me in hand paid by James Thompson of the County and
State aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents
the receipt whereof I the said Samuel M.cCollester do hereby acknowledge
have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant,
bargain and sell unto the said James Thompson, his executors, administrators
and assigns a certain Negro Boy Slave for life named John
Hardcastle supposed to be about fourteen years of age.  To have
and to hold the said Negro Boy slave named John Hardcastle above
bargained and sold or intended so to be to the said James Thompson,
his executors, administrators and assigns forever  And I the said
Samuel M.cCollester for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators
the said Negro Boy named John Hardcastle as a Slave unto the said
James Thompson, his executors, administrators and assigns against
me the said Samuel M.cCollester my executors and administrators and
against all and every person and persons whatsoever shall and will
warrant and forever defend by these presents.  In Witness whereof I
have hereunto set my hand and seal this twelfth day of April in
the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty five.

We the undersigned hereby relinquish all our right and interest in and
to the above named Negro Boy unto James Thompson, his heirs, executors,
administrators and assigns.  Witness our hands and Seals this
