273. to have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Zacchariah Linthicum his heirs and assigns forever one Negro Woman Mary and child Eliza Jane slaves for life. To have and to hold said negroes above bargained and sold unto the said Linthicum his heirs and assigns forever. In testimony whereof I the said Levin W. Tall hath hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this 24 day February in the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred and forty five. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of Levin W. Tall (Seal) Thomas Jones Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this twenty fourth day of February in the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred and forty five before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for said County personally appears Levin W. Tall who acknowledges the foregoing Bill of Sale or instrument of writing to be his act and deed. Acknowledged before Thomas Jones John Jackson Negro Be it remembered that the following Manumission Paid Ex.d to was recorded on the 11.th day of March 1845, To wit: Rose Stanley Negro Know all men by these presents that I John Jackson a free man of colour of Dorchester County in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me hereunto moving have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted and forever set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit and forever set free My Negro woman called Rose Stanley aged about thirty eight years of sound constitution and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance. Hereby acknowledging the said Negro Woman Rose Stanley to be free and discharged from all claim of service or right of property from me, my heirs, executors & administrators and from all persons whatsoever from and after the date hereof Witness my hand and seal this 11.th day of March 1845 his signed sealed & delivered in the presence of John x Jackson (seal) Robert Bell Tho. H. Hooper mark Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: on the 11.th day of March 1845 the above named John Jackson appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace in and for the county and state aforesaid & acknowledged the above Manumission to be his act and deed and delivered the same for the uses and purposes therein mentioned according to the act of assembly in such case made and provided.
