251. Joseph Cornish, Mary supposed to be six years old and Joseph about two years and six months slaves for life and sound in body and mind to have and to hold the said Negros, Mary and Joseph Cornish as above bargained and sold unto the said Uriah Todd his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns against me the said James Geoghegan my heirs, executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons shall and will warrant and defend. In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty seventh day of Novem.r 1844 Test James Craig James Geoghegan (L S) State of Maryland Dorchester County To wit: On this 27.th day of November 1844 before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for said County & state personally appeared James Geoghegan & acknowledged the above Bill of sale or instrument of writing to be his Act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Acknowledged before Samuel Craig Josiah Bayly Be it remembered that the following deed of Manumission Ex.d to was recorded on the 10.th day of December 1844, Negro Cassandra To wit: Dorchester County to wit: Whereas my Negro Woman Slave Cassandra daughter of My Negro Woman Slave Flora during a period of more than thirty years has resided in my family and performed the various duties thereof with inflexible honesty and unremitting assiduity and has at all times been treated in the family more as an affectionate friend and companion than as a slave. She was born in Somerset County the 26.th day of July in the year 1800; and whereas the said Cassandra is of healthy constitution and sound in mind and body capable by labor to procure to her the said Cassandra sufficient food and raiment with the requisite necessaries of life and doth not exceed forty five years of age but is within, under and less than forty five years of age by several months; Be it therefore know to all persons whom it may concern that I Josiah Bayly of Dorchester County aforesaid in consideration of the above recited premises and other good causes and meritorious considerations have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free my said Negro Woman Slave Cassandra and her the Cassandra I do hereby pronounce and declare to be henceforth and from this time free manumitted, released and discharged from all manner of slavery or servitude to me, my executors or administrators forever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this ninth day of December in the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred and forty four, 1844.
